Ayatollah Shaheed Beheshti speaks about a life lived as an Ashiq.
An Ashiq is a person who has Eshq, and Eshq is a profound word which cannot be described by mere words, but rather needs to be felt in order to be understood in its most basic form, while its limits have no bounds.
It can be loosely defined as a very deep and profound form of love, stemming from the depths of the heart and the soul, which turns the lover subservient to the wishes of the beloved.
And so as the Urafa’ (Islamic gnostic masters) say, the ultimate and purest form of Eshq is that which is for Allah, the Mighty, the Exalted.
Ayatollah Shaheed Beheshti explains in a very poetic manner.
It’s time to become an Ashiq and join the ranks of one of the greatest Ashiqs the world and history has ever witnessed, Imam Husayn ibn Ali (A).
