“Shunning evil” doesn’t mean to [simply] distance oneself from such individuals so much, so that we don’t become corrupt. Rather, it means that there exists a line in opposition to the line of Towheed and Allah’s servitude, which is the line of the Taghut. [Thus,] rejecting the Taghut is a necessary complement to the faith in Allah.
