Imam Husayn (A) himself has determined what the direction is. At one place, in the middle of his journey, Imam Husayn (A) stopped and delivered this sermon: “O’ people, surely the Messenger of Allah (S) said, ‘If someone sees an oppressive sultan who has turned Allah’s Haram into Halal, who has broken the divine covenant, who has opposed the holy Prophet’s traditions, and who behaves in an oppressive and unjust manner towards the servants of Allah; and if they don’t oppose him, neither in words nor in actions, it is the right of Allah to place them where He places that oppressive sultan’.”
